Salukis - Obedience Training

Training Salukis in obedience is both challenging and rewarding. In order to make your interaction with a Saluki successful, find out what motivates your dog best. Training sessions with Salukis should be short and interesting. Start teaching some simple doggy behavior rules at the age of eight weeks of age. Even if you do not plan on showing your Saluki, there are a number of practical advantages to obedience training. It tends to build up responsiveness, confidence and a sense of responsibility in your dog.

Other than in obedience, Salukis are great performers in open field coursing, lure- coursing, fly ball, agility, tracking and championship shows.

Salukis - Agility

As the basic elements in agility are running, jumping and climbing, most Salukis respond to it well. Agility offers you teamwork, cooperation and building of trust. A typical agility course consists of approximately 15 obstacles, which are varied. The agility event is timed, and the participating dogs have to succeed in various jumps, and cope with chutes, oxers, weave pools, high catwalks, A-frames and other obstacles. This activity does not only provide your Saluki with necessary physical and mental exercise, but also makes you fit and enthusiastic. No doubt, all these activities provoke creativity both in Salukis and their owners.
